CHAN 2024: Emotions, Goals, and the Energy of African Football

CHAN 2024

The 2024 African Nations Championship, the main continental tournament for players from African clubs, has come to an end. This time, CHAN was held in three countries at once – Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda – allowing even more fans to dive into the atmosphere of the sporting celebration.

It is in this competition that you can see how African football breathes, grows and gives birth to new stars. There are also plenty of spectacular games. Needless to say, five goals were scored in the final! Do you know when was the last time so many goals were scored in an Africa Cup of Nations final? In 1962, when Pelé was still a young footballer, and Maradona was only two years old!

It was one of those finals that fans will remember for many years to come. Morocco beat Madagascar 3-2 and became the CHAN 2024 winners. Madagascar were the underdogs but unexpectedly opened the scoring in the 9th minute, which gave them a chance to succeed – the team had conceded only one goal in the knockout stage.

But Morocco showed why they were the strongest team at the tournament. Goals from Oussama Lamlioui and Youssef Mehri gave the favorites the lead by half-time. Madagascar refused to give up and equalized midway through the second half, but 10 minutes before the end of regular time, Lamlioui scored his sixth goal at the tournament, securing victory for his team and cementing his status as the top scorer of CHAN 2024.

Senegal took bronze. In the third place match against Sudan, the teams couldn’t break the deadlock (1-1) in regular time, but Senegal came out on top in the penalty shootout. Senegal’s hero, Mark Diouf, was named the best goalkeeper at the tournament.

However, the feeling of unity across the entire continent is more important than any prizes. Like AfroPari, CHAN gives fans unforgettable emotions and also provides young players with maximum opportunities. New stars are born here, and the key matches of the tournament are just as exciting as any top games on other continents.
