In a historic move, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), under Kissi Agyebeng, has formally charged former Ghana Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta and seven others with 78 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences.
The charges include causing financial loss to the state, contravention of procurement laws, and abuse of office, with prosecutors pointing to specific transactions that allegedly enriched the accused at the expense of taxpayers. The OSP spent months gathering evidence before moving to court.

Ernest Darko Akore, Ofori-Atta’s former Chief of Staff, is among the wanted persons believed to be abroad. The state has formally requested assistance from the Attorney-General to activate extradition processes and ensure all accused appear before the court.
Court insiders indicate that the presiding judge will soon schedule the first appearance where the accused are expected to enter their pleas. The trial is already being described as one of the biggest corruption cases in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
Social media is buzzing with reactions, with #OforiAtta78 trending across platforms as citizens demand transparency and a swift judicial process untainted by political pressure.
