Kuami Eugene Explains Music Ownership, Royalties and Contract With Lynx Entertainment
Award-winning highlife musician Kuami Eugene has opened up about the details of his contract with Lynx Entertainment and clarified misconceptions surrounding the ownership of his music catalogue following his exit from the record label.
Speaking in an interview with Giovani Caleb on TV3 on January 21, 2026, the singer explained that ownership of his music was clearly outlined from the beginning of his deal with the label.
According to Kuami Eugene, he wrote and produced the majority of his songs during his time with Lynx Entertainment, which earned him substantial ownership rights.
It all depends on the contract we signed from the beginning. Because I wrote all my songs and produced about 90% of them, I have the producer credit and I own a chunk of my catalogue,” he said.
The ‘Angela’ hitmaker noted that only a handful of songs — approximately five tracks — were produced by other producers, representing about 10 percent of his total works.
The 10% is like some five songs that other producers made. Besides that, I was writing and producing my own songs so I’m still the owner,” he added.
Kuami Eugene further clarified that while Lynx Entertainment owns the masters to his songs, he retains his performing rights, making both parties joint owners of the catalogue.
Because the label owns the masters, they are part owners as well, but I still own the performing rights,” he explained.
On the issue of royalties, the musician revealed that Lynx Entertainment typically pays him annually, but failed to do so last year.
Lynx Entertainment pays me every year, but the money didn’t come last year, so technically, they’re owing me,” he disclosed.
Despite the outstanding payment, Kuami Eugene emphasized that his relationship with Lynx Entertainment remains cordial and respectful, dismissing speculation of conflict between both parties.
