Tinny Explains His Relationship With Producer Hammer and Career Origins
Veteran Ghanaian rapper Tinny has publicly clarified that legendary music producer Hammer of The Last Two did not discover him — a statement dispelling long-standing industry rumours about how his career began. Instead, Tinny says he made a conscious decision to pursue his craft and approached Hammer professionally.
In a recent interview, Tinny explained that he approached Hammer’s studio to record songs and paid for the sessions himself rather than being scouted by the renowned producer. “I went to Hammer to record my songs. He didn’t look for me or discover me — I paid him to work for me,” he clarified.
The rapper also addressed speculation about his early artistic direction. Contrary to some beliefs, Tinny did not shift his style — such as rapping in the Ga dialect — because of Hammer’s influence. Instead, he says his decision to reflect his Ga heritage in his music was a personal one and preceded any connection with Hammer.
Tinny recounted that his meeting with Hammer came through mutual industry contacts. According to his account, artist Doggo introduced him to Hammer when the producer was looking for a Ga rapper at the time. This led to their initial collaboration, but not before Tinny had already begun carving his own musical identity.
Despite clearing up the discovery myth, Tinny expressed respect for Hammer’s influence on Ghana’s hip-hop and hiplife scene, describing the producer as a creative force capable of bringing out strong performances from artists in the studio.
