Highlife Legend Gyedu Blay Ambolley Stars in Stage Play I Told You So

Veteran Highlife musician Gyedu Blay Ambolley is set to captivate audiences once again — this time on the theatre stage — with his starring role in the drama production I Told You So.

Best known for pioneering the Simigwa sound and shaping the evolution of Ghanaian Highlife music, Ambolley is bringing his charisma and stage presence to the performing arts in a production that blends entertainment, culture, and social commentary. (graphic.com.gh)

According to the production team, I Told You So explores themes of identity, community, tradition, and modern challenges through the lens of storytelling, music, and dramatic performance — with Ambolley’s involvement adding cultural depth and star appeal to the cast.

“I’m excited to join this play because theatre can connect with audiences differently from music,” Ambolley shared in a recent interview. His participation highlights the vibrancy of Ghana’s creative ecosystem where musicians continue to contribute beyond their primary art forms.

The play, produced by a collaboration of Ghanaian theatre creators and cultural promoters, will feature a mix of seasoned performers and emerging talents, promising a memorable experience for patrons of the arts.

Gyedu Blay Ambolley’s transition from legendary music stages to the theatrical spotlight underscores his versatility as an entertainer and affirms his influence across multiple creative platforms.

Tickets for I Told You So are expected to go fast as fans of Highlife, drama enthusiasts, and supporters of Ambolley’s illustrious career prepare to attend what promoters describe as a “must-see cultural event.” Show dates, venue details, and full cast lineups will be announced by the organisers ahead of the performances.
