GoldBlock Party Launches Purple Festival Focused on African Dance Music Culture

After six years of shaping youth culture and community-driven experiences in Ghana, GoldBlock Party (GBP) is entering a bold new era with the launch of Purple, a festival platform dedicated to African dance music, creative expression, and global cultural exchange.

Built as the next evolution of the GoldBlock Party brand, Purple aims to celebrate the sounds, energy, and creative ecosystems driving contemporary African youth culture both across the continent and within the diaspora.

Although rooted in Ghana through GBP’s cultural influence in Accra, Purple will officially launch its first edition in Lagos before making its Ghana debut in Accra. Future editions are also planned for Abuja, Houston, and New York City.

Purple is designed as an immersive cultural experience that blends:

  • African dance music
  • Fashion
  • Food
  • Art
  • Youth culture
  • Creative community experiences

Speaking about the vision behind the platform, Ewurama Dadson, Project Operations Lead (Ghana), explained:

“At its core, Purple is about celebrating African dance music culture in a way that feels immersive, intentional, and globally connected.”

The festival will spotlight genres currently dominating African dance floors, including:

  • Afrobeats
  • Amapiano
  • Gqom
  • 3-step
  • Afro House
  • Electronic Fusion
  • Ghanapiano
  • Alternative dance sounds

The debut Purple Accra edition will feature performances from major acts including:

  • DJ Maphorisa
  • Jazzwrld x Thukuthela
  • Eeque
  • Jnr SA
  • Uncool MC
  • Kojo Manuel
  • DJ Millzy
  • Afrolektra
  • Que Soundz
  • DJ Williamo
  • Michael Nichols
  • Accra Mayor
  • Tim Jeezy

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, at Underbridge Annex.

Beyond entertainment, Purple aims to establish itself as a multidisciplinary cultural platform through collaborations across fashion, media, art, and contemporary African creativity.

As the festival expands into multiple cities globally, Purple represents both the continuation of GoldBlock Party’s legacy and a forward-looking movement dedicated to the future of African dance music culture worldwide.
