Kumawood Actor Salinko Eyes Parliamentary Seat on NPP Platform
Popular Kumawood actor Oboy Salinko has announced plans to contest for a parliamentary seat again, this time on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
The actor, whose real name is Abraham Kofi Davis, revealed during an interview that he is considering contesting either the Old Tafo or Atwima Kwanwoma parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region.
Salinko previously contested the Atwima Kwanwoma seat in the 2016 elections on the ticket of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), describing the experience as a learning process that strengthened his political ambition.
According to the actor, he now feels financially stable and prepared to focus on public service and development within his constituency. He also criticised some politicians for allegedly failing to improve the lives of the people despite occupying public office.
Salinko explained that he no longer intends to contest as an independent candidate, insisting that joining one of Ghana’s major political parties gives him a stronger platform to achieve his goals.
His announcement has sparked reactions online, with many social media users expressing surprise over his return to politics while others welcomed the move and encouraged celebrities to contribute to national development.
If he eventually contests the Old Tafo seat, Salinko could potentially face current MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah, who currently represents the constituency on the NPP ticket.
