Nollywood Stars Land in Ghana

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has pulled off another big Ghana–Nigeria movie link-up. Nollywood heavyweights Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor, Mike Ezuruonye, Zubby Michael and Destiny Etiko have arrived in Accra to shoot his new film, A Journey to Africa, and the stars are already talking about what the project means for African cinema.

Nollywood Stars Touch Down in Accra

The Nigerian actors arrived at the Accra International Airport on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Their arrival was planned for Terminal 3 in the morning, and videos of the welcome quickly spread online.

The movie, also billed as A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu), is being produced under Lil Win’s Wezzy Empire banner.

Quick facts

  • Film: A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu)
  • Behind the project: Kwadwo Nkansah (Lil Win), Wezzy Empire
  • Nigerian cast: Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), Mike Ezuruonye, Zubby Michael, Destiny Etiko
  • Arrival: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Accra International Airport
  • Key location: Nzulezu stilt village, Western Region of Ghana
  • Previous collaboration: A Country Called Ghana (2024)

Zubby Michael: “It’s Bigger Than Nollywood”

Zubby Michael, one of Nollywood’s most popular faces, described the film as more than a regular Nigerian or Ghanaian production. Speaking after his arrival, he said, “We are doing an African movie. Nigeria and Ghana coming together is something big. It’s bigger than Nollywood; now we are doing African movies.”

He also hinted at bigger ambitions. “We are proceeding, we are expanding, we are escalating. The next part now is that we merge Nollywood, African film and Hollywood. That’s the target,” he said.

The actor, who has worked in Ghana before, showed love to his hosts. “I’ve been here before. I love it. Ghana is our second home,” he added.

Why Kanayo O. Kanayo Said Yes

Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo explained that the deal started with a simple WhatsApp message from the director, followed by calls to agree on a contract. For him, the decision came down to the story.

“I’m an actor and if I read the script and it’s worth my while, I agree to work on it,” he said. He noted that the cast would receive the physical script and work schedule after arriving, adding that each actor has their own contract and shooting timeline.

A Warm Welcome for Mike Ezuruonye

Mike Ezuruonye also got a special Ghanaian welcome. A group of ladies presented him with a framed portrait of himself when he got to his apartment on September 30.

The actor joked that the portrait would not be checked in as luggage but would travel with him back to Nigeria, a light moment that fans have enjoyed online.

Why Nzulezu Matters

The film takes its alternate title from Nzulezu, a historic village in Ghana’s Western Region built on stilts over water. It is one of the country’s best-known cultural and tourist sites, and its use as a backdrop puts Ghanaian heritage at the centre of the story.

According to reports, the project aims to celebrate the close relationship between Ghana and Nigeria, showing off the culture, sound and unity of both countries.

Building on ‘A Country Called Ghana’

This is not Lil Win’s first cross-border movie. His 2024 film A Country Called Ghana, which premiered in April 2024, featured Nigerian stars Ramsey Nouah, Charles Awurum and Victor Osuagwu, and drew wide attention.

Lil Win has said he wants to push Ghanaian films onto the international stage. He has also spoken about bringing in Hollywood actors on future projects if funding allows.

What’s Next

With the cast now in Ghana, filming is set to get underway. A release date for A Journey to Africa has not been announced yet.

For fans on both sides of the border, the arrival of five big Nollywood names in Accra is another sign that Ghana–Nigeria film collaborations are growing stronger. All eyes are now on Lil Win to deliver a movie that lives up to the hype.
