Chaos in the Ring
Nigeria’s Independence Day ended with punches, cheers and a few big surprises in Lagos. At the “Chaos in the Ring” celebrity boxing night, former BBNaija winner Phyna knocked out Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing in the fourth round, while comedian Carter Efe beat Speed Darlington on the judges’ scorecards to keep his celebrity boxing title.
The event, staged by Balmoral Promotions at the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island on Thursday, October 1, 2026, ran late into the night and has dominated Nigerian social media since.

Here are the official fight highlights of Carter Efe vs Speed Darlington from Chaos in the Ring:
Phyna Wins Nigeria’s First Female Celebrity Bout
The clash between Phyna and Nkechi Blessing was billed as Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout, and it lived up to the hype. The fight was scheduled for four rounds, and Phyna ended it by knockout in the fourth.
Her win came with a brand-new car and a N50 million cheque. After the fight, the reality star said she kept calm and stuck to her plan. “I came in, and I kept my cool and did the thing,” she said, according to The Sun.
Phyna also hinted that she may take boxing more seriously beyond this one-off show.
How the feud started
The bad blood between the two women did not start in the ring. Reports say it began when Nkechi reached out to Phyna about a movie project. Things soon turned sour online, with both stars trading insults on social media.
The pair later came face to face on The Morayo Show before agreeing to settle their differences with gloves on.
Carter Efe Retains His Celebrity Title
In the men’s celebrity bout, Carter Efe faced singer Speed Darlington over four rounds. When the scorecards were read, the comedian was named the winner by unanimous decision.
“Your winner by unanimous decision and still celebrity champion is Carter Efe,” the ring announcer declared, as reported by Legit.ng.
The win keeps Carter Efe unbeaten in the celebrity series. He first won the title on May 1, 2026, when he beat singer Portable by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 30-27.
Carter Efe wants bigger names
Fresh from his victory, the skit maker set his sights far beyond Nigeria. “I want to fight DDG, Mayweather,” he said after the bout, according to The Guardian. He also thanked his girlfriend, Jasmine, for motivating him.
A Press Conference That Lived Up to the Name
The fight night came just a day after a wild pre-fight press conference on Wednesday, September 30, at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Ikeja.
Raw eggs were thrown, Carter Efe’s birthday cake was smashed by Speed Darlington, and part of the hall briefly caught fire before it was put out with an extinguisher. Phyna and Nkechi Blessing also clashed, with an egg and a water bottle flying between them.
Before the bout, Carter Efe mocked his rival’s record, saying: “You could not beat Portable. You should not be in the ring with me.”
Promoter Dr Ezekiel Adamu admitted things went further than planned. “We wanted chaos, but I never knew it would get to this. Henceforth, we will be taking more precautions,” he said.
Phyna Calls Out Etinosa Idemudia
Phyna did not waste time naming her next target. Moments after her win, she called out Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia, claiming the actress had been “messing around” in her DMs.
Etinosa responded ringside that she does not run from a fight and accepted the challenge. On Friday, however, she took to Instagram to say she was shocked by the callout. “All I have ever done is love and advice her right from when she was an actor on my set over 2 years ago,” she wrote.
Whether the two will actually meet in the ring has not been confirmed.
Ghana’s Freezy Macbones Takes the Main Event
While the celebrity bouts grabbed the headlines, the main event was a serious title fight. Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah beat Godday “Zodsolo” Appah on points over 10 rounds to win the WBO African light-heavyweight title.
The undercard also featured several professional bouts, including wins for Michael “Killerboy” Babalola, Yusuf Adisa Adeniji and Israel Makinde, who scored a first-round knockout.
