Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa: Breaking Records as the Youngest PhD Holder in the US

Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa, a remarkable Ghanaian student, has achieved yet another milestone by becoming the youngest PhD holder at the University of New Mexico in the United States. Prior to this achievement, she had already made headlines as Ghana’s youngest university graduate, completing her bachelor’s degree in mathematics at the age of 17 from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Ruth’s academic journey began at the age of 13 when she was admitted to KNUST to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. Despite facing numerous challenges, she excelled in her studies and graduated at the top of her class. Inspired by her passion for electrical engineering, she further pursued her doctoral studies at the University of New Mexico.

Ruth comes from a family with a strong background in mathematics, with her father being a professor who teaches at Prempeh College. Reflecting on her journey, she credits her faith in God and her unwavering determination for overcoming the challenges she faced. Some of her peers doubted her abilities due to her exceptional intelligence, but she found strength in her progress, the support she received, and the promising future that lies ahead.

Ruth’s story serves as an inspiration to aspiring students worldwide, showcasing the power of perseverance, resilience, and a strong belief in oneself.
