Naa Ashorkor
Actress and broadcaster Naa Ashorkor is now a lawyer. The popular TV3 presenter was among 1,568 newly qualified lawyers called to the Ghana Bar on Friday, October 9, 2026, and she says the moment was 14 years in the making. She was not the only familiar face in the robes either, as Citi FM’s Umaru Sanda Amadu, Joy News’ Ayisha Ibrahim and EIB Network’s Rev. Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong also crossed into the legal profession.
A Big Day at the 63rd Call to the Bar
The Ghana School of Law’s 63rd Call to the Bar ceremony took place at the ICGC Christ Temple on Teshie Bush Road in Accra. It was a formal convocation of the General Legal Council, where the new lawyers were enrolled as Barristers and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
The 1,568 people admitted make up one of the largest groups called to the Ghana Bar in recent years.
Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine were among the dignitaries in attendance. Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court, as well as members of the General Legal Council and the Ghana Bar Association, were also present.
Naa Ashorkor: “It’s Been a Long Time Coming”
For Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, the ceremony marked the end of a long and patient road. Speaking at the event, she described the day as one she had waited years for.
“It’s been a long time coming,” she said. “I started this journey in 2012, so it’s been 14 years.”
She explained that she stepped away from her legal studies for a long time to start a family and grow her career, before returning about two years ago. “I took a long break to let life happen, and I came back two years ago. So today’s a great day for me,” she added.
Faith, Family and Focus
Naa Ashorkor credited three things for getting her across the finish line: her faith, the people around her and her own drive.
In her words, it came down to “the grace of God, a wonderful support system and the zeal to pursue a dream I had for many years.”
The Video Diary Fans Loved
Before the ceremony, she also shared a short video on Instagram documenting her time at the Ghana School of Law. The first clip, dated November 6, 2024, shows her on her very first day of school, heading out early to get a seat at the front of a large class.
In the video, she admitted she was very anxious about how tough the programme is. She vowed to pass all her exams at once and finish in two years, saying she was ready to “burn the midnight candle” to make it happen.
The final clip, recorded early on the morning of October 9, 2026, shows her on her way to the call ceremony. “This is what the Lord has done,” she said.
