How the Controversy Started
The issue goes back to September 2026. Shortly after Stonebwoy headlined his BHIM Festival at the OVO Arena Wembley in London, Sarkodie shared a short clip on his Instagram Story showing a one-legged man trying to kick another person.
Many fans linked the timing of the post to Stonebwoy, who has spoken openly about a childhood accident that affected his right leg. Stonebwoy is not an amputee, but critics have mocked his condition in the past.
Stonebwoy questioned Sarkodie on X over why he shared the clip after the London show. Sarkodie denied that the video was aimed at Stonebwoy, saying fan interpretations were not proof of his intentions.
Sarkodie: ‘I’d Post It Again’
Sarkodie addressed the matter in October on the first episode of When We Sit with Serwaa Amihere. He insisted that mocking a person’s disability was never on his mind.
“Me and you know that that would never be something that would cross my mind,” he said, adding that disability “is something very serious. You don’t joke with things like that.”
However, when asked whether he would make the same choice again, the rapper said he would repost it. He argued that he should not feel guilty for an offence he did not intend. We covered that interview in full in our earlier story, ‘I’d Still Post That Video Again’ – Sarkodie Says He Never Meant to Mock Stonebwoy.
Vida Adutwumwaa: ‘I Dare Him’
Speaking with DJ Slim on Class FM on Monday, October 26, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng said she did not blame Sarkodie at first. In her view, people without disabilities may not always notice the struggles disabled people face.
She said the issue needed more sensitivity, pointing to the discrimination and access problems that persons with disabilities deal with in Ghana.
Her main problem, she explained, was Sarkodie’s response to the backlash. She described his remarks on Serwaa Amihere’s show as irresponsible and said he should have acknowledged the concerns and apologised instead of insisting that nobody could tell him what to post.
“I dare him; he should post it again,” she said.
Praise for Stonebwoy’s Amputee Advocacy
Vida also praised Stonebwoy for drawing attention to the challenges of people living with disabilities, including members of Ghana’s amputee football team, the Black Challenge. She noted that many Ghanaians do not even know the team exists.
She added that Stonebwoy has worked to make his shows more accessible, including dedicated areas for wheelchair users and others who need assistance. The dancehall star recently donated GH¢100,000 to the Black Challenge ahead of the Amputee World Cup in Mexico.
Tilly Akua Nipaa Pushes Back
Not everyone agrees with Vida. In a post on X, media personality Tilly Akua Nipaa questioned the backlash against Sarkodie and described the conversation as hypocritical.
“So because an amputee went to play the prank, it can’t be considered funny?” she asked.
She argued that amputee comedians and content creators have pulled millions of views because audiences enjoy their humour, not because of their disability. According to her, treating amputees only as objects of pity reduces who they are.
Tilly also questioned whether a campaign leader holding that view helps or hurts inclusion. She further suggested that the backlash could be about using Sarkodie’s name to amplify Stonebwoy’s amputee campaign, and asked whether people truly believe amputees can only evoke pity.
A Long-Running Tension
The video row is the latest chapter in the up-and-down relationship between two of Ghana’s biggest music stars. Sarkodie and Stonebwoy have collaborated in the past and were once seen as close friends.
When the video first caused a stir, Stonebwoy said he had called Sarkodie to congratulate him after his Royal Albert Hall concert, and that the two had once spoken for more than an hour about artiste conduct and principles. Sarkodie, for his part, said he had invited Stonebwoy to that Royal Albert Hall show, which he would not have done if he held any bad feelings.
The new debate comes just days after Sarkodie’s Rapperholic 2026 concert in Kumasi, which drew a massive crowd to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
What Happens Next?
As of the time of writing, Sarkodie has not publicly responded to Vida Adutwumwaa’s dare or Tilly Akua Nipaa’s comments. Stonebwoy has also not made a fresh statement on the matter.
For now, the conversation has moved beyond the two artistes. It has become a wider debate about humour, disability and sensitivity in Ghana’s entertainment space, with fans split on whether the clip was harmless fun or a step too far.
