Court Rules Against Agradaa in Empress Gifty Defamation Lawsuit
A Ghanaian court has ordered evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, to pay GH¢100,000 to gospel musician Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye after a defamation lawsuit that stemmed from allegedly false statements made on social media.
The Tema High Court issued the judgment on 20 January 2026, concluding a legal dispute that began in May 2025 when Empress Gifty filed suit seeking damages for statements she described as defamatory and damaging to her reputation, career, and personal life.
As part of the resolution, Agradaa retracted the false claims in December 2025, acknowledging they were made “in the spur of the moment” and issued an unreserved apology to Empress Gifty, her family, and associates.
In addition to the GH¢100,000 payment — which covers damages, legal costs, and related expenses — Agradaa was ordered to publicly apologise and facilitate the removal of the defamatory posts from social media platforms. The settlement was formalised as a Consent Judgment by both the Tema Land Court and Tema Main Court, effectively bringing the matter to a close.
The lawsuit originally sought GH¢20 million in damages alongside a permanent injunction against further defamatory statements and the removal of all offending content. However, the amicable settlement resolved the dispute without a full trial.
