Asiama Emerges as One of TGMA 2026’s Biggest Breakthrough Artistes

At the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA 2026), one of the most talked-about breakthrough moments belonged to rising Ghanaian singer Asiama, whose debut single Akoma earned him the prestigious Best Male Vocal Performance award.

The victory marks a remarkable milestone for the singer, representing:

  • His debut single
  • His first TGMA nomination
  • His first major music award win

Beyond the award, Akoma also secured a nomination for Record of the Year, firmly positioning Asiama among Ghana’s most exciting emerging voices.

For many music lovers, Akoma became their first introduction to Asiama — and the reaction was immediate:

“Who is he?”

What stood out was not just the song itself, but the emotional depth and restraint in his voice. Many listeners described his delivery as calm yet spiritually powerful, carrying a level of honesty and vulnerability rarely heard in contemporary music.

Born Emmanuel Asiamah Mensah in Kumasi and originally from Effiduase, Asiama grew up surrounded by gospel music, hymns, choral harmonies, and Highlife traditions — influences that continue to shape his sound today.

Some audiences may also remember him from the reality competition X Factor (Glo), where he appeared at just 12 years old and impressed judges including:

  • Reggie Rockstone
  • M.I Abaga
  • Onyeka Onwenu

At the time, Onyeka Onwenu reportedly encouraged the young singer not to lose hope, predicting that his moment would eventually come.

That journey would later connect Asiama with renowned Ghanaian producer Kwame Yeboah, who has since described the singer as:

“A rare gem.”

The creative direction surrounding Asiama’s artistry has also been shaped by Be.love, led by founder Tina “Belove” Atiemo, whose emotionally immersive storytelling has helped build the visual and symbolic world around the artiste.

At its core, Akoma explores emotional and spiritual conflict, reflecting themes of temptation, vulnerability, and the search for inner strength over the desires of the heart and mind.

For many listeners, Asiama’s emergence does not feel like a sudden discovery — it feels like the arrival of an artist whose voice was always meant to be heard.
