IShowSpeed Backs Portugal Despite His Ghanaian Citizenship

Popular American streamer and YouTuber IShowSpeed has sparked reactions among Ghanaian football fans after boldly predicting that Portugal will win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite identifying as Ghanaian.

Speaking about the upcoming tournament, IShowSpeed reportedly said:

“I’m Ghanaian, but Portugal are winning the 2026 World Cup.”

The statement quickly generated debate online, particularly because the internet sensation has developed a strong connection with Ghana following his visit to the country and subsequent acquisition of Ghanaian citizenship earlier this year.

IShowSpeed’s prediction is hardly surprising to fans familiar with his long-standing admiration for Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo. Over the years, the streamer has consistently expressed his support for Ronaldo and Portugal, even predicting that the European nation will lift the World Cup trophy.

His loyalty to Ronaldo has become one of the defining aspects of his online personality, with many of his football-related videos and livestreams centered around the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

The comments have drawn mixed reactions from Ghanaians on social media. While some fans appreciated his honesty and acknowledged Portugal’s strong squad, others felt he should have backed the Ghana national football team considering his newly acquired Ghanaian status.

Ironically, IShowSpeed has previously expressed affection for Ghana and even stated that he would like to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to the country one day.

As anticipation builds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, one thing is certain: Speed is firmly backing Ronaldo and Portugal to go all the way, even if it means going against the hopes of many Ghanaian football supporters.
