Shatta Wale
Shatta Wale says his music career was never a race against other artistes. In a Facebook post shared after ShattaFest 2026, the dancehall star told fans, “I didn’t come to compete. I came to awaken a generation,” as he reflected on a birthday concert that turned the Accra Sports Stadium into a sea of white on Saturday, October 17.
The message comes as fans continue to share clips from the show, which marked his 42nd birthday and featured Medikal, Sista Afia, Patapaa, Fancy Gadam and others. But the night also left people talking for another reason: comments he made on stage about fraud and how the law treats young people.

What Shatta Wale Said After ShattaFest
In his post, the artiste, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., described his journey as one driven by purpose, not rivalry.
“My journey has never been about who is ahead of me or who is behind me,” he wrote. He added that his story is about purpose, sacrifice, faith and the millions of people who see themselves in him.
He also said he wanted to show that “even a boy from the streets can become a KING without anybody’s permission.”
In another line, written in capital letters, he said: “I AM NOT HERE TO BE BETTER THAN ANYBODY. I AM HERE TO BE EVERYTHING GOD CREATED ME TO BE.”
A message to young people
According to Graphic Showbiz, Shatta Wale presented his rise from humble beginnings as proof that hard work and determination can open doors for people society has written off.
He said criticism, comparisons and attempts to play down his work cannot erase the purpose he believes God gave him. He described his life as a message, his struggles as lessons, and his success as proof of what is possible when you stay focused.
Inside ShattaFest 2026
ShattaFest 2026 was held at the Accra Sports Stadium as part of Shatta Wale’s birthday celebrations. Fans and members of the Shatta Movement turned up in large numbers, following the all-white dress code.
The concert was organised in partnership with MobileMoney Fintech Limited, continuing a collaboration that began with the 2025 edition at Independence Square, according to GBC.
Performances and big moments
Several artistes joined the celebrant on stage. Patapaa opened with his hit “One Corner” before performing “Body Fi Body” with Shatta Wale.
Medikal joined him for their song “Sika,” one of the loudest moments of the night. Sista Afia also performed “Jeje” with the dancehall king.
Other acts on the bill included Fancy Gadam, Jupitar, Kwesi Amewuga, Guru, Edem, Hajia4real and Lawyer Koomson (Killer Ntua).
Shatta Wale was seen in tears at one point as he looked out at the crowd, appearing moved by the support. He also shared kisses on stage with two women he calls his “two wives.”
Famous faces in the crowd
The concert drew personalities from entertainment, sports and public service. Nana Ama McBrown was in attendance, as were CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and former Ghana international Prince Tagoe.
A congratulatory message from President John Dramani Mahama was also played, recognising Shatta Wale’s contribution to Ghana’s creative industry.
Fraud Comments Spark Debate
While the music got people dancing, some of Shatta Wale’s on-stage remarks quickly became the main talking point online.
Speaking in Pidgin during his set, he questioned why young people suspected of fraud are arrested while, in his view, officials accused of stealing public funds are not.
“Ministers dey steal, they no dey catch them,” he said, adding that “they dey catch young boys for Ghana.” He also said he would not report friends involved in fraud, pointing to the country’s tough economic conditions.
Graphic Showbiz reported that the comments raised questions about selective justice and accountability, and that they overshadowed parts of the concert itself. No response from government officials or law enforcement had been reported at the time of writing.
Birthday Gifts and Build-Up
The build-up to the show had its own headlines. A day before his birthday, singer Fantana delivered a brand-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Twin Turbo to Shatta Wale’s Trasacco home in Accra, according to Pulse Ghana. A video of the two sharing a warm hug spread quickly online.
Rapper Kwaw Kese also revealed he turned down a reported GH¢100,000 offer to perform at the festival. He explained on X that he was mourning and burying his mother-in-law in Kumasi that weekend. Fans responded with messages of condolence.
