‘Disinfect Your Mic Before You Perform’ – Sista Afia
Ghanaian songstress Sista Afia has urged fellow artistes to take microphone hygiene seriously by disinfecting microphones before using them during performances.
The “Corner Corner” hitmaker made the call in a Facebook post, noting that artistes frequently move from one show to another and often share microphones that have been used by several people.

According to Sista Afia, performers share microphones with numerous people who sing, speak and breathe into the same equipment. She, however, clarified that not every illness experienced after a performance can necessarily be attributed to a microphone.
She encouraged her colleagues to take simple precautions, such as carrying microphone-safe disinfectant sprays or wipes and cleaning microphones before taking the stage.
Sista Afia also suggested that artistes who can afford it should consider travelling with their own microphones to minimise the need to share equipment.
“My fellow colleagues, please let’s start taking this seriously. Your health first. Disinfect your mic before you perform,” she emphasised.
Her advice has drawn attention to hygiene practices within Ghana’s live entertainment industry, particularly as musicians and performers regularly share equipment at concerts, festivals and other events.
