Here Is Why Mzbel Believes Stonebwoy Is a Bitter Person
Ghanaian musician Mzbel has opened up about her strained relationship with fellow artiste Stonebwoy, explaining why she believes the award-winning musician comes across as a bitter person. According to Mzbel, her opinion stems from both their personal fallout and Stonebwoy’s reaction to a Grammy-related article that recognized key figures in Ghanaian Hiplife music.
Speaking in an interview, Mzbel claimed that she and Stonebwoy were once friends, but their relationship changed as his career grew. She alleged that the dancehall star eventually distanced himself from her and unfollowed her on social media, a move she said left her disappointed.
Mzbel revealed that what hurt her most was Stonebwoy’s reaction to a Grammy article titled “10 Artists Essential to Ghanaian Hiplife,” which featured her among other notable artistes. According to her, instead of allowing those recognized in the publication to celebrate the achievement, Stonebwoy made comments and posts that shifted attention away from the artists being honored.
She argued that the article focused specifically on Hiplife musicians and was surprised that Stonebwoy appeared unhappy about not being included, despite his many accomplishments in other genres. Mzbel said she felt the moment was significant because it represented recognition she had not received in a long time.
The veteran singer stated that Stonebwoy has enjoyed numerous successes throughout his career, which made his reaction even more surprising to her. She added that his behavior during that period contributed to her perception that he was being bitter rather than allowing others to enjoy their moment.
The comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some fans supporting Mzbel’s viewpoint while others defended Stonebwoy and questioned her assessment of the situation. The discussion has since reignited conversations about relationships, recognition, and competition within Ghana’s music industry.
@shadouttv Stonebwoy used to be my friend, but as his brand started growing, he cut me off and unfollowed me on all social media platforms. That was painful, but what hurt me the most was what happened when the Grammy article, ‘10 Artists Essential to Ghanaian Hiplife: Reggie Rockstone, Sarkodie, Mzbel & More, was published. Instead of allowing the artists featured in the article, including myself, to enjoy and celebrate the recognition, he made tweets and comments that shifted the attention away from us. What made it even more surprising was that the article was specifically about Hiplife, and Stonebwoy is not generally known as a Hiplife artist. He has always been included and celebrated in many conversations and achievements within the industry, so I was surprised that this was the one moment he seemingly couldn’t let go and allow others to enjoy.
