Nollywood Mourns Veteran Yoruba Actor Taiwo Hassan
Veteran Nollywood actor, filmmaker and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 65. His death was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by his daughter, Kira Hassan, during an emotional Instagram Live session.
Taiwo Hassan was one of the most recognisable figures in Nigeria’s Yoruba-language film industry, with a career spanning more than four decades. He was celebrated for his memorable performances and contributions to the growth of Yoruba cinema.

His death comes days after his family publicly revealed that he had been battling stage-four cancer. His daughters had appealed for medical assistance as his condition deteriorated, with reports indicating that doctors could no longer administer chemotherapy.
The actor’s passing has triggered an outpouring of grief from colleagues, fans and other personalities in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Veteran actor Saheed Balogun was among those who mourned Ogogo, describing his death as painful and praying for the repose of his soul.
Ogogo built an impressive legacy through numerous Yoruba-language productions and also appeared in major projects such as Aníkúlápó, where he played the Alaafin Ademuyiwa. His distinctive acting style and decades of service to Nollywood earned him a special place among Nigeria’s veteran actors.
His death marks the loss of one of the prominent figures who helped shape Yoruba cinema and inspired generations of actors and filmmakers.
