Florence Obinim’s lawyer Kusi Appiah cites cheating and lack of privacy as Bishop Obinim mocks her alleged divorce demands in a viral church video.

Florence Obinim

The breakup between gospel musician Florence Obinim and Bishop Daniel Obinim has turned into one of Ghana’s loudest celebrity stories this week. Florence’s lawyer, Kusi Appiah, has publicly explained why she wants out of the marriage, pointing to repeated cheating and the bishop’s habit of airing their private issues in church. His comments came just hours after Obinim openly laughed at what he said were her divorce demands during a church service in Tema.

Lawyer Lists Reasons Behind the Divorce

Speaking with host Ola Michael on Peace FM on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Kusi Appiah said his client had endured a great deal before deciding to walk away.

According to the lawyer, the founder of International God’s Way Church cheated on Florence many times. He added that some of the women involved later turned around to mock and insult her.

“He has cheated on her numerous times, and some of the women he cheated with even came to ridicule and insult her,” Kusi Appiah said.

He explained that Florence had put up with the situation for years. “She has tolerated this for a long time, but she now feels it has gone too far,” he stated.

‘Every Marriage Deserves Some Privacy’

The second reason, the lawyer said, is the way the bishop talks about their marriage in public. Florence reportedly asked him several times to stop discussing their home affairs in the church auditorium, but he did not listen.

“Every marriage deserves some privacy,” Kusi Appiah said.

He also hinted that there is a third reason behind the divorce, but said he would not reveal it for now.

Obinim Reads Out Alleged Demands in Church

The lawyer’s interview followed a video that spread quickly on social media on Tuesday. In it, Bishop Obinim is seen at his Tema church as documents linked to the divorce are read to the congregation. He then went through what he described as his estranged wife’s demands.

Quoted by GhanaWeb, Obinim said she was asking for GH¢2 million and an apartment at the Abroso Guest House in Accra. He also claimed she wanted his house in Barcelona, Spain, a GH¢10,000 monthly allowance and the church building in Tema, which he called the headquarters. Some outlets, including Pulse Ghana and Modern Ghana, reported the cash figure as GH¢20 million.

“She wants the church at Tema. She wants the headquarters,” the bishop said, before asking, “Why is she mad?”

It is important to note that these demands come from Obinim’s own account in the viral video. Florence has not personally confirmed the list, and no court name, case number or hearing date has been made public.

Quick Facts

  • Who: Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder of International God’s Way Church, and gospel singer Florence Obinim
  • Marriage: More than two decades, with three children
  • Lawyer: Kusi Appiah, speaking on Peace FM on October 13, 2026
  • Reasons given: Alleged repeated cheating and lack of privacy, plus a third reason not yet disclosed
  • Alleged demands (per Obinim): Cash settlement, Abroso Guest House apartment, Barcelona house, GH¢10,000 monthly allowance and the Tema church building

How the Marriage Got Here

Trouble in the Obinim home has been public for months. In June, the bishop revealed plans to move out of the matrimonial home into a new house, a move that raised many questions among fans.

In September, Florence’s family reportedly returned the traditional drinks, known as “Tiri Nsa,” to Obinim’s family. In Ghanaian custom, this signals a wife’s decision to end the marriage, and the bishop’s family reportedly accepted it.

Shortly after, Obinim shared his side of the story after the divorce, insisting he never said he was no longer interested in the marriage.

Ogyaba Tells Obinim to Leave Him Out

The drama has also pulled in other public figures. During his church remarks, Obinim reportedly suggested that Florence had been discussing their marriage with some close associates, and preacher Ogyaba was named among them.

In a TikTok video shared on Tuesday, Ogyaba fired back, according to YEN.com.gh. He said Obinim had once advised him to stay quiet when cheating claims against him went viral online, and that the bishop should now take his own advice. He said he wanted no part in the dispute and urged both parties to protect their children from the fallout.

Florence’s brother, Alfred Manu, has also alleged that Obinim sent pastors to warn Florence over a car reportedly gifted to her. Obinim has denied threatening his estranged wife, and these claims have not been independently verified.

Fans Divided Online

Social media users have been split over the saga. Some backed Florence, saying her reasons are valid because the bishop often discusses their marriage before his congregation and the public.

Others questioned why she defended him in past interviews, while some criticised the lawyer for discussing a client’s marriage on radio.

The bishop has had a string of public rows this year, including a heated exchange with actress Benedicta Gafah, which kept his name trending for days.

What Comes Next

For now, neither side has given a timeline for the case, and the full legal process is yet to play out. With Florence’s lawyer promising more details and Obinim continuing to speak from the pulpit, the end of this long-running marriage saga is unlikely to be quiet.
