Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie and her husband, Prince Odi Okojie, have handed over a brand-new house to an elderly woman and her son who were living in a badly run-down building. The couple completed the project in about three weeks after a video of the family’s living conditions touched the actress, and the new home was officially handed over on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The gesture, shared by Prince Odi on social media, has since gone viral across Nigeria and Ghana, with fans praising the couple for turning sympathy into real action.

How the Project Started

According to Prince Odi, the story began when he and his wife came across a video on social media. It showed an elderly woman and her son living in a structure that was clearly falling apart.

He explained that Mercy Johnson was deeply moved by what she saw. Rather than simply feel sorry and scroll past, the actress reportedly insisted that they had to do something to help the family.

That decision set the project in motion. Prince Odi said that within roughly three weeks, construction of a new house for the mother and son was complete.

“A Journey From Tears to Smiles”

In his post, the politician and businessman described the whole experience as “a journey from tears to smiles.” He also reflected that “sometimes, one decision can completely change another person’s life.”

Prince Odi congratulated the elderly woman, calling her the “newest landlady in town,” and gave the glory to God for making the project possible.

He framed the new building as “A NEW HOME, A NEW BEGINNING,” adding that the house would “restore their dignity and give them a place they could proudly call their own.”

Fans React to the Kind Gesture

The post quickly drew a wave of praise online. Many followers prayed for the couple and their family, while others said the gesture was a reminder of what kindness can do.

One user, @mercyahimegbe, wrote: “More of God’s blessings to you, sir and your family.” Another, @ruththerutor, described the moment as “so heartwarming and beautiful to behold.”

Some fans went further. @fitsbyose joked that if it were possible to vote more than once, they would vote for Prince Odi “1 million times.” Another commenter, @love.amicable.5, used the moment to praise Mercy Johnson’s supportive role in her marriage.

Not every comment was pure applause, though. One curious follower, @occupation_1015, asked whether the house came with bedrooms, a sitting room and a kitchen, showing how closely people were following the story.

Not the First Time the Okojies Have Built a Home for Someone in Need

This is not the first time the couple’s generosity has made headlines. In May 2022, Mercy Johnson used her husband’s birthday to share a video of a three-bedroom house he was building for an elderly man in a village.

That man’s roof had been destroyed by wind during a rainstorm. Prince Odi reportedly found out about his situation on Facebook and sent his team to put up the new building.

The latest project follows the same pattern: a story spotted online, a quick decision to help, and a finished home in a matter of weeks.

Who Is Mercy Johnson-Okojie?

Mercy Johnson-Okojie is one of the most loved faces in Nollywood. She was born on August 28, 1984, in Lagos, and hails from Okene in Kogi State.

She shot to fame with the film The Maid and went on to star in titles such as Hustlers, Baby Oku in America and War in the Palace. Her strong, energetic screen presence made her a household name across Nigeria and Ghana, where Nollywood films have a huge following.

Awards and career milestones

Over the years, the actress has won major awards. She was named Best Supporting Actress at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009 for Live to Remember, and won Best Actress in a Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2013 for Dumebi the Dirty Girl.

She also produced the historical film The Legend of Inikpi (2020), and in 2017 she was appointed Senior Special Assistant on entertainment, arts and culture to then Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

Her marriage to Prince Odi Okojie

Mercy married Prince Odianosen Okojie on August 27, 2011, and the couple have four children. The pair often share sweet family moments online, and fans regularly describe them as one of Nollywood’s most admired couples.

Nollywood Stars and Giving Back

The story arrives during a busy few weeks for Nollywood, from the industry mourning the late Olu Jacobs to box office records set by Agbara Nla: The Return. Amid the headlines, the Okojies’ gesture has stood out as a feel-good moment.

The project also comes as more Nollywood stars, including veterans like Kanayo O. Kanayo, spend time working in Ghana, strengthening the bond between the two film industries and their fans.

For many fans, the new house is a reminder that celebrity influence can be used to change lives in very practical ways.
