Dr Likee
Kumawood actor and comedian Dr Likee, popularly known as Akabenezer, has finally addressed the comments broadcaster Serwaa Amihere made about his famous chains, insisting that she “didn’t say it maliciously” and revealing that the jewellery he wears is actually gold. His fresh remarks come as comedian Lekzy De Comic also steps forward to defend Serwaa, saying only “business-minded people” understood her point.

Here is a video on how Akabenezer replied Serwaa Amihere over the chain comments:
How the Chain Saga Started
The conversation began on Sunday, October 25, 2026, when Serwaa Amihere spoke to mentees at The Complete Ignite Woman session.
During the session, the GHOne TV presenter and lawyer reportedly urged young women to stop buying counterfeit designer items, such as fake Louis Vuitton and Birkin bags, just to look wealthy. She argued that such items could affect how people are seen, including at work.
While making her point, she reportedly referred to the many chains Dr Likee wears in his skits as an example of fake jewellery. That reference quickly spread online and became the talking point of the week.
Social Media Splits Over Serwaa’s Advice
Reactions were mixed. Some social media users agreed with the advice against fake luxury goods, while others questioned whether people who cannot afford originals should be shamed for buying cheaper items.
A number of celebrities also weighed in. Afia Schwarzenegger described the mention of Akabenezer’s chains as “so uncalled for,” while Efia Odo and Mzbel were also reported to have commented on the issue.
Not everyone saw a problem, though. One social media user, Kojo Adade, wrote: “But this was what she was cautioning the ladies not to do. Don’t put on too many copper chains like Akabenezer. Nothing wrong with that statement.”
Dr Likee’s First Reply: “Serwaa Chains”
Dr Likee’s first response came in a short video shared on Facebook by blogger Zion Felix around October 28.
In the clip, the actor was seen walking down a street before a shoot, wearing a yellow sleeveless top and several gold-toned chains with large pendants. When a man asked him whether the chains were genuine, he laughed it off and jokingly called them “Serwaa chains.”
Many fans praised him for choosing humour instead of insults. One user, Monica Nartey Ampong, commented: “I respect you paa, agoro nkoaa. People thought you were coming to insult her.” Another, Amak G Amaky, wrote: “You can’t be angry with this man. I love you, man. Life is easy.”
Akabenezer Breaks His Silence: “The Chains Are Actually Gold”
In a new video that surfaced online on October 31 and was reported by GhanaWeb on Sunday, November 1, Dr Likee spoke more seriously about the matter.
He made it clear that there is no bad blood between him and the broadcaster. “Serwaa is my very good friend,” he said, adding: “She didn’t say that in a malicious way.”
According to the actor, Serwaa was only trying to make a point to the young women she was speaking to, and there is no misunderstanding between them over the remarks.
Why He Pretends They Are Copper
The most surprising part of his response was his claim about the jewellery itself. “The chains are actually gold,” he said.
Dr Likee explained that he pretends the chains are copper for his own safety. “I don’t want any unscrupulous persons to try and rob me,” he said.
It is worth noting that the gold claim is the actor’s own statement and has not been independently verified.
Lekzy De Comic Defends Serwaa Amihere
Popular comedian Lekzy De Comic has also thrown his support behind Serwaa. Speaking to Nana Romeo on Okay FM, he said he saw nothing wrong with her advice.
“I didn’t see anything wrong with what she said,” Lekzy stated. “Ghanaians we don’t look at the message, we look at the messenger.”
Looking at the issue as an entrepreneur, he said it is not acceptable when someone takes your idea to another country to produce under the same brand. He added that buying cheap counterfeits only fuels the counterfeit market.
Lekzy also argued that legitimate, affordable alternatives exist, pointing to shoes he had seen selling cheaply in the US. He warned that wearing fakes abroad could leave people embarrassed when they stand beside those who can afford the originals.
