Davido and VeryDarkMan Unfollow Each Other on Instagram After Kokopee’s Peace Bid Collapses

VeryDarkMan by Davido

The cold war between Afrobeats star Davido and social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has moved to a new stage. The two former friends are no longer following each other on Instagram, days after a peace effort by VDM’s close friend Kokopee reportedly fell apart in public.

The unfollow was spotted on Saturday, October 31, 2026, and reported by Legit.ng on Sunday morning. A check of Davido’s page, which has more than 31 million followers, showed he had removed VDM from his following list. VDM’s page, with over 3 million followers, showed the same.

Watch: Kokopee Explains the Davido–VDM Fallout

In this Instagram video, Kokopee explains how he tried to mediate between Davido and VeryDarkMan.

Quick Facts

  • What: Both unfollowed each other on Instagram
  • When it was noticed: Saturday, October 31, 2026
  • Mediator: Kokopee, VDM’s close friend, who says he tried to reconcile them
  • Davido’s reaction to Kokopee: A single “cap” emoji posted on Friday, October 30
  • Status: Neither Davido nor VDM has confirmed the real cause of the rift

How the Friendship Turned Sour

Davido and VDM were once seen as close. Over the past months, however, the activist has repeatedly called out the singer online, and the two have been publicly at odds.

In July 2026, VDM shared his own side of the story in a trending video. He claimed that Davido and his team offered him ₦50 million to campaign for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, the singer’s uncle. VDM said he turned down the offer, and suggested that this was when things changed between them.

Davido did not respond to the claim directly at the time. Instead, he posted a video of a man dancing to his song “Gimme Dat Thing,” which many fans read as a cryptic reply.

The Prayer Video That Resurfaced

In late October, an old 2025 video of VDM’s mother praying for Davido went viral again. In the clip, she prayed for the singer’s career and his safe return to Nigeria.

Davido reportedly replied that the prayer was already working, pointing to VDM’s own survival as proof and noting that the activist’s line of work attracts many enemies. The exchange only added fuel to the online debate.

Kokopee Steps In as Peacemaker

On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Kokopee posted an Instagram video explaining his role in the dispute. He said he was not around when Davido and VDM first became friends, but he got involved after the two fell out.

According to Kokopee, VDM called him to complain about something Davido had allegedly done. He said he advised VDM to reach out to people close to the singer, naming Israel and Ubi.

He added that Davido also contacted him privately about the issue. “I told Davido, Davido, this is what I feel that’s making VDM feel that you betrayed him in this friendship,” Kokopee said. He explained that Davido did not agree with that view, while VDM held firm to his position.

The “Free Collaboration” Question

Kokopee said things got awkward when VDM later asked why he was carrying Davido’s matter, and whether the singer had promised him a free music collaboration. To avoid looking disloyal to his friend, Kokopee said he stepped back from the mediation.

He said he still privately advises VDM to handle the friendship carefully, but he cannot force two adults to settle their differences. He also said some things discussed in private would remain private.

Davido Responds With a “Cap” Emoji

Two days later, on Friday, October 30, Davido posted a single cap emoji on X. In internet slang, “cap” means a lie or an exaggeration, and many fans took it as Davido dismissing Kokopee’s account.

Kokopee hit back on October 31 as some critics doubted that the singer had ever contacted him. “I did not disclose the content of my chat with Davido, and Davido is not too big to message me,” he wrote. He added, “I’m only humble, not hungry.”

Fans React to the Unfollow

News of the mutual unfollow split opinions online. Some fans praised Davido for drawing a line. “Long overdue, very good,” one user wrote. Another said, “Weldone davido don’t take disrespect from anybody.”

Others felt the singer should have distanced himself earlier, while a few urged both men to settle their differences in private.

A Busy Week for Davido

The feud comes during an eventful period for the singer. He recently featured his wife Chioma in his “Already Falling” music video, which includes a proposal scene. He was also part of the celebrations around Zlatan Ibile’s wedding, where he and Burna Boy shook hands at Zlatan’s bachelor party, sparking talk of a reconciliation between the two music giants.

VDM, on his part, recently announced that a criminal case filed against him by the Nigeria Police over an impersonation charge had been struck out. He described the ruling as a major victory after nearly two years in court.

What Next?

For now, neither Davido nor VeryDarkMan has publicly confirmed Kokopee’s account as the full story behind their broken friendship. With both men now unfollowed on Instagram, fans are watching closely to see whether this is the final chapter or just another twist in one of Nigerian showbiz’s most talked-about rifts.
