‘If It Hadn’t Been That Song, I Wouldn’t Be Here’ – Kweku Flick Reveals How Sarkodie’s Messiah Stopped Him From Quitting Music After His Father’s Death

Kweku Flick

Ghanaian rapper and singer Kweku Flick has opened up about one of the hardest seasons of his life, revealing that Sarkodie’s hit song “Messiah” came at the exact moment he was ready to walk away from music. In a new interview with 3Music, the Kumasi-bred artiste said the song, and the platform Sarkodie gave him on it, changed his story.

Kweku Flick, real name Andy Osei Sarfo, explained that he lost his father in August 2024 and began to question whether he should keep chasing his music dream. According to him, “Messiah” was the sign he had prayed for.

Kweku Flick Says He Was Close to Quitting Music

Speaking on 3Music, Kweku Flick described the period after his father’s death as a turning point. He said he did not know which direction his life would take.

“I lost my dad in August 2024. After everything that happened, I went on my knees and prayed to God,” he said.

The singer added that if things had not changed, he would probably have turned his full attention to his mineral water business instead of music.

How Sarkodie’s “Messiah” Became the Sign He Prayed For

According to Kweku Flick, the answer came a few months later. In November 2024, Sarkodie sent him the record that would become “Messiah”.

He explained that Sarkodie had already recorded the first two verses, but the song had no chorus at the time. Kweku Flick said he wrote the hook while listening to the beat in a car.

For him, that moment felt like the sign he had asked God for after his loss.

“If It Hadn’t Been That Song, I Wouldn’t Be Here Today”

Kweku Flick did not hide how much the record meant to him. He gave credit to Sarkodie for trusting him with the song.

“I give a big shout-out to Sarkodie. The platform he gave me did a lot,” he said.

He went further to say the song shaped where he is now. “I feel like that particular song has changed a lot because if it hadn’t been that song, I wouldn’t be here today,” he added.

3Music TV also shared a clip from the interview on X, captioned in part: “If not for MESSIAH, I would have logged out of music…”

Kweku Flick and Sarkodie: A Long Relationship

This is not the first time Kweku Flick has spoken warmly about Sarkodie. In March 2025, he told Graphic Showbiz that Sarkodie was one of the people he looks up to.

“He treats me like we’ve known each other for decades,” he said at the time.

Kweku Flick has also previously recalled how Sarkodie once bought outfits for him and fellow young rappers Amerado, Yaw Tog and Kofi Jamar, a story that showed the rapper’s support for the new generation of Ghanaian acts.

Who Is Kweku Flick?

Kweku Flick rose to fame as part of the new wave of Kumasi rappers, often called the “Kumerican” movement. He became widely known for his melodic style and records such as “Money”, “No Sleeping”, “Black Stars” and “Bye Bye”.

He has continued to release music since “Messiah”, including tracks like “Sweet” featuring Shatta Wale.

Why His Story Is Connecting With Fans

Many music lovers know “Messiah” as a big collaboration. Few knew the personal pain behind Kweku Flick’s part in it.

His story shows how one opportunity from an established star can change the path of a young artiste. It also shows how grief can push people to the edge of giving up on their dreams.

The full interview is now available on the 3Music TV YouTube channel.

Final Word

Kweku Flick’s revelation adds a new layer to one of Sarkodie’s most loved recent collaborations. What many heard as just a hit song was, for him, the answer to a prayer and the reason he stayed in music.
