‘This Is Beyond My Imagination’ – Adwoa Smart Weeps as Maame Gold Gifts Her Fully Furnished Apartment After Floods Destroyed Her Home

Adwoa Smart Weeps as Maame Gold

Veteran Ghanaian actress Adwoa Smart could not hold back her tears after businesswoman and philanthropist Maame Gold surprised her with a fully furnished one-bedroom apartment. The gift came after heavy rains and flooding destroyed the actress’s home at Abossey Okai in Accra, and videos of the emotional moment have spread quickly on social media since Monday, November 2, 2026.

The video below captures the moment the screen star was led into the apartment prepared for her.

A Surprise She Never Saw Coming

According to Maame Gold, Adwoa Smart had no idea the apartment was meant for her. She was invited out on what she believed was a visit to surprise someone else.

When she walked in and realised the furnished home was hers, the actress broke down in tears. Clips shared online show her overwhelmed with emotion as she was shown around the space.

“I don’t even know what to say because this is beyond my imagination,” Adwoa Smart said, as quoted by GhanaWeb.

Floods Destroyed Her Old Home

The gift follows a difficult period for the actress. Adwoa Smart had earlier shared online that heavy rain had damaged her home at Abossey Okai, the Accra suburb where she was born.

“I was at Abossey Okai, and whenever it rained, the rain would destroy all our properties,” she explained.

Reports say her new apartment is located at East Legon Hills, away from the area that kept flooding.

How Maame Gold Found Out

Maame Gold said she discovered how bad the situation was when she dropped Adwoa Smart off at her residence and saw the flood damage for herself.

She said she first offered to help, but the actress turned the offer down. That is when she decided to plan a surprise instead.

“She is someone who doesn’t like to beg,” Maame Gold said of the actress, adding that Adwoa Smart rarely talks about her personal struggles.

Gift Backed by Maame Gold Foundation and Friends

Maame Gold explained that the apartment was provided by herself, the Maame Gold Foundation and some of her close friends. The home comes with furniture and essential household items, so the actress does not have to start from scratch.

She also revealed that the support may not end with the apartment. “We will try to set up a business for her so she can be more comfortable,” she said.

Maame Gold described Adwoa Smart as a legendary actress she admired at the peak of her career, and said she sees her as a big sister.

Not Maame Gold’s First Gift to a Screen Veteran

This is not the first time the philanthropist has stepped in to support a veteran actress. Recently, she surprised Christiana Awuni with a brand-new Toyota Sienta after learning about the actress’s transport challenges.

Ghanaians React

Reactions online have been overwhelmingly positive. Many social media users praised Maame Gold for her kindness and thanked her for showing love to an actress who entertained Ghanaians for decades.

Others said the gesture is a reminder that veteran entertainers who built the industry deserve to be celebrated and supported while they are still alive. Adwoa Smart, for her part, thanked Maame Gold for remembering her and coming to her aid when she needed help the most.

Who Is Adwoa Smart?

Adwoa Smart, born Belinda Naa Ode Oku, is one of the most recognisable faces of Ghana’s screen industry. She rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s, and her small stature and bold personality made her a fan favourite.

Before acting, she worked as a trader at Kaneshie Market. Veteran actress Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, spotted her talent and mentored her into acting.

She went on to appear in popular TV productions such as Obra and the long-running sitcom Efiewura, as well as films including Matters of the Heart and Black Star.

The Bigger Conversation About Veteran Actors

Her story adds to a wider discussion about the welfare of retired and veteran actors in Ghana. Many of the stars who shaped the golden era of local TV and film now struggle with housing, health and income, a concern that has come up often as industry players debate how to grow and sustain Ghana’s film industry.

A Fresh Start

For Adwoa Smart, the new apartment means an end to the worry of watching her belongings wash away every time it rains. Thanks to Maame Gold and her friends, the beloved actress now has a safe, comfortable place to call home, and a fresh start.
