I Was Not Well – Kofi Adjorlolo Explains Why He Is Missing From LilWin’s ‘A Journey to Africa’
Veteran Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo has explained why he is missing from LilWin’s big-budget international film A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu). He says he was invited to join the project but could not take part because he was unwell, and he has dismissed any suggestion that a quarrel with the Kumawood star kept him away.
Speaking in an interview with Max TV on Friday, October 9, 2026, the respected actor said the production team reached out to him, but his health at the time did not allow him to work.
“I Was Contacted, But I Was Not Well”
According to Adjorlolo, the call from LilWin’s team came shortly after he returned from Nigeria, where he had been working on another film.
“Yes, I was contacted, but I was not well. When I returned from Nigeria, I was unwell, and I made them aware of it,” he explained.
He said he informed the producers about his condition at the time, so his absence from the set was not a surprise to them.
No Bad Blood With LilWin
Adjorlolo’s comments come as fans have been asking why some well-known Ghanaian faces are not part of the film. The veteran made it clear that there is no problem between him and the producer, whose real name is Kwadwo Nkansah.
“I have done a lot of LilWin’s productions. I have never refused to be part of LilWin’s productions before, and the people of Kumasi know that,” he said.
He added: “Everything is okay between us. I don’t have any problem with them.”
A Long Working Relationship
The actor pointed to his history with LilWin’s company as proof that the two sides remain on good terms. By his account, he has featured in many of the comic actor’s earlier films, and this is simply a case of bad timing.
A Call for More Investment in Ghanaian Movies
Beyond clearing the air, Adjorlolo used the interview to speak about the state of Ghana’s film industry. He believes money is one of the biggest things holding local productions back.
“I would make sure there are lots of investments going into our productions,” he said, before adding, “We need more investors in the industry.”
His remarks add to a wider conversation in Ghana’s movie space about funding, pay and how local films can compete with Nollywood productions.
Why Ghanaian Actors Are Talking About This Film
A Journey to Africa has been one of the most talked-about Ghanaian movie projects in recent weeks. The film is produced by LilWin’s Weezy Empire and is being shot at Nzulezu, the famous stilt village in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region.
The production has brought several big Nollywood names to Ghana, including Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor, Mike Ezuruonye, Charles Awurum, Zubby Michael and Destiny Etiko.
The Casting Debate
The heavy Nigerian presence in the cast has sparked debate. Earlier this month, LilWin told bloggers that Nigerian actors tend to read his scripts and respond quickly, while some Ghanaian actors take a week or more to reply. He said he would not beg anyone to work with him.
The conversation grew louder after Kanayo O. Kanayo told Ghanaian actors to stop demanding the same pay as Nigerian stars. LilWin also made headlines when he gave Van Vicker five days to apologise over a separate disagreement.
Against that background, Adjorlolo’s explanation helps put to rest any idea that his absence was part of a wider fallout between LilWin and senior Ghanaian actors.
Support Pours In for the Production
While the casting talk continues, the film has also been getting local backing. On the same day as Adjorlolo’s interview, it was reported that Jomoro MP and Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey had sent an undisclosed cash donation to the set through the Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive, Benedict Boadi.
Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III, Paramount Chief of the Nsein Traditional Area, also paid a surprise visit to LilWin and the cast at Nzulezu. Earlier in the shoot, the people of Nzulezu honoured LilWin with the traditional title of Nkosuohene, a role linked to development.
The project has not been without pressure, though. LilWin recently spoke openly about how an unpaid balance owed to the Nollywood stars had left him unable to sleep.
