PRO Explains What Happened to Stonebwoy’s AFCON Gig
Ghanaian dancehall icon Stonebwoy missed his highly anticipated AFCON Fan Zone performance in Tangier, Morocco, on January 8, 2026 — and organisers have revealed the reason. According to a Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Burniton Music Group, the show did not go ahead due to unforeseen technical problems at the venue, not artist cancellation or absence.
The performance was scheduled as part of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone entertainment programme, which was meant to combine football celebrations with live music for fans attending the continental tournament in Morocco.
Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, the PRO, told local media that Stonebwoy and his team arrived ready to perform, but production issues — reportedly tied to staging or equipment setup — made it impossible to deliver the show as planned at Villa Harris Park in Tangier. Organisers opted to postpone the performance while they worked to fix the problems behind the scenes.
The postponement was disappointing for local and international fans who had looked forward to seeing the Grammy-nominated artist perform live during one of Africa’s biggest sporting events. Stonebwoy has been actively involved in AFCON festivities beyond this performance, including featuring in official tournament activities and music related to the championship.
At the time of reporting, neither Stonebwoy’s team nor event organisers had announced a new date for the rescheduled performance. Fans are now waiting for updates as the tournament continues.
